And so it begins...

Hugh Montgomery sat at his large oak desk thinking about how he should begin his letter to Miss Anna Morgan. Anna Morgan had been generous and kind enough to take in his destitute cousin, Emily. Hugh wished he could have taken her in but unfortunately his crone of a mother forbade it. Emily, she had once said, had made her own bed and now it was time for her to lie in it. Hugh did have to believe his mother when it came to her knowledge of "beds", she had been sleeping in a wide and varied sort of them since Hugh's father died.

Poor Reginald, she used to drone on, I only wish he could live to see his own grandchildren. If he hadn't died from Polio tow years prior, Hugh was most certain that his mother would have killed Reginald. Hugh felt sorry for his father really; of course he loved his father, but Reginald had certainly lacked a spine when it came to his family, especially Hugh's mother. Olivia Montgomery was the sort of nagging old woman tha everyone hated. Hugh in all honesty, felt nothing for her because she, in turn, had never felt anything for him. He had tried in his younger years to bridge the gap between them, but she insisted on keeping it wide and apparent to all. She had always suggested that her "real" children had somehow gone missing as she never spoke of Hugh or his brother, Arthur, to anyone outside of the family.

After having thought of these aspects, Hugh suddenly found himself with an opening for his letter to Anna Morgan:

Miss Morgan,

In all my life, I can honestly say I've never known compassion quite like yours. I wish you all the riches and happiness in the world for being so kind to Emily. As I'm sure she will inform you, I myself, could not house her for certain "relative" aspects. I think that Emily will be a great addition to your home and I know she will do all she can to help you with anything you need - as will I, so please do not hesitate to ask. I give you my deepest thanks and warmest regards once more Miss Morgan. You truly are an angel of sorts.

Sincerely,

Hugh J. Montgomery

Hugh smiled down at the paper, pen still in hand. Although he didn't consider himself a poet by any means, he thought he displayed his gratitude quite well.
