Do not tell secrets to those whose faith and silence you have not already tested. ~Elizabeth I

I began thinking earlier this evening about secrets. Are there some secrets worth keeping and never telling to anyone, not even your lover, best friend, husband, wife or mother?

I find there are secrets I have that others know that I would have rather taken to my grave. But are secrets really secrets or just portions of our life that we are embarrassed, ashamed or scared of? Because if you really think about it, every secret you have ever had has probably been bad. And I am not talking, a birthday present for your mom from your dad type of secret (besides that's more a surprise deal anyway) but those deep dark secrets that we would almost give our lives to conceal...

I find myself sometimes just looking or thinking about people I know and really thinking about how well I know them. I wonder if I know all their secrets; I sometimes wonder if they trust me enough, love me enough or consider me objective enough to hear their secrets and confidences. I hope I am. I think most of my friends are...I think. Ha! No, truly most of the friends I have are dead set on maintaining secrecy. I am thankful for that. It seems the older we get the more secrets we obtain. This makes me wonder if life is simply events and plans or concealing parts of yourself from others. That's something to think about for a while...

*Always.
