A Life Less Ordinary A Life Less Ordinary
June 26, 2005
You know, it was never my intention to be foolhardy while growing up. I had never had aspirations of being an idot or even a naive little chit. I always wanted to be the heroine of my own story. You know! Heroines like Scarlett O'Hara or even the less known heroines of cheesy romance novels (which I happen to love by the way). I always wanted to be able to say to myself, "Caitlin, you can be self-sufficient and happy without knowing everyone around you, without being in love, without experiencing different walks of life, or even experiencing obstacles to be overcome." I always wanted to be someone that people looked at and thought, "That girl has mystery." But then I thought, I do have mystery, but what am I hiding from?

Now that I've begun my road to "maturity" I think less about my life as it is and more of how it was. My aspirations in beng the heroine of my own story haven't changed but something else in me has...I find myself looking to others to sustain my ego. Yes, ego! We all have one! Which is probably why a majority of the time I find myself unhappy, unsatisfied or barely even content.

So, I suppose in retrospect I've become one of those introverted, selfish, college kids who thinks about their own needs and wants and happiness as opposed to others. This made me realize that the heroines in novels aren't heroines because they change things for themselves; they're heroines because they somehow change others. So, from here and on out I am going to try and be more attentive, more appreciate, more respectful of those around me. Hopefully, I can learn something more about life as it to others than how it only is to me.

*Always.
Caitlin
